I just LOVED this pink owl ribbon and I had the perfect little owl charm to complete it for Day 75 of making a bookmark daily for 365 days.

Day 75 Beaded Fairy bookmark

Day 74 of making a bookmark daily for 365 days, a silver staff with a wire wrapped purple bead and silver fairy charm.

MARCH CONTEST - win a Banana bookmark

I was rearranging my bookcases this week and in the process came across many many bookmarks AND other items serving as bookmarks, leaves, receipts, business cards, brochures, grocery lists, etc.  Then I got the following e-mail from a friend regarding a bookmark SHE found once:   "I told you Barb gave me a mother's day card about eight or nine years ago and when I was still going to the library perhaps two years ago I was looking for a book to check out and opened one and there was a card in it.  I thought, funny, that card looks familiar -- and I opened it up and it was the mother's day card Barb had send me all of those years ago. "

That gave me an idea for my next contest!  Tell me in the comment section of this blog OR on Lazy Lizard Studio Facebook page the most unusual item you have used as a bookmark and YOU can be the winner of your very own BANANA  BOOKMARK to add to your own unusual bookmark collection.

Contest ends March 15th at midnight!

Day 74 - Feather bookmarks

This is the view from my studio at 5 a.m. this morning.

Here are some bookmarks I made this morning, day 73 of making a bookmark daily for 365 days.  One has a red bead in addition to the black feather and the other has a root beer-colored bead.

Day 73 Making a Bookmark Daily for 365 days

I have new labels for packaging that match my business card!  I really like the look of the packaging with the new labels.

Here is a close up of this book thong.  I made one quite similar but this one has completely different charms on one end.  Since these are all hand made by me in my studio, no two are exactly the same.  That is a good thing.

Day 72 - Cupcake!

I love the color combination of brown and pink - I think the cupcake with the pink frosting is sooooo cute!  Perfect for this brown ribbon with pink flowers.  I put a crimp on both ends of the ribbon to give it a nice finish.

Day 71 Keep Calm and...........

I am loving the tea pot charm!!!  I was thrilled to find it.  I also have the cutest pink cupcake charm and found some wonderful ribbon to go with it that I can't wait to make into a bookmark.  This bookmark is approximately 10" long.  Won't damage pages of your book and easy to find your place and go back to where you left off.  I use ribbon crimps on both ends to give the ribbon a nice finish, with a charm dangling from one end.

Day 70 Mix and Match - Just Like my Granddaughter Dresses!

I love picking out what I am going to use for the envelopes and cards to go along with the magnetic bookmarks.  I make my choices similar to how my granddaughter dresses!!!!!  One of my favorite photographs was from when she was about 4 and her mom brought her by for a surprise visit.  Well, Madison and I both happened to have wacky socks.  See, I had an influence on her early

Speaking of my granddaughter, she is going to be competing this Odyssey of the Mind, Saturday in the Southern Regional Tournament at Canyon Del Oro High School.  Good luck Rio Vista Elementary School.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.

Here is the front window of Treasure Hunters located at 7731 E Broadway Blvd, Tucson · (520) 207-4723.  They are carrying my cards and bookmarks!  Stop by and check them out.  The owner, Sharon Burneister and staff are WONDERFUL.  They have a couple of cute mascots you can meet!  I'm not telling, you just have to go and check out for yourself.  They are cuties!!!

Below are some examples of the art you will find in there, these items were made my a very humble artist - she is also the person that referred me to Sharon!

Art Quilt Journals

My latest project is creating personal journals from small art quilts I made as a participant in the Journal Quilt Project by organizer/curator and director Karey Patterson Bresehan.  The "journal pages" exhibited at the International Quilt Festival in Houston.  I participated a couple of different years.

The quilt pictured above was the very first "journal page" I created in January 2003 and it was published in the book Creative Quilting, The Journal Quilt Project (page 204).

It was a privilege to participate and I am grateful for Karey Patterson Bresehan for creating this safe haven outside of competition, for quilt artists around the world, no matter what level they were at.  This was an amazing project that allowed us to experiment and grow as artists.  It taught me a lot, how to work in a series, working on deadline, and allowing myself freedom to play/create not worrying about the end results.

Below is one of the art quilt "journal pages" created in the series I did in 2003 and in it's journal form on the right. I think it is very fitting to create a personal journal from it.  I have been trying to decide what type of paper I wanted to put in these journals.  I decided for the first one it would be fitting to create fabric pages.  Possibly in future journals I will put in watercolor paper.  I would like to make another one with mixed papers.  I will post my progress as I work on these.

Pictured below is the inside cover of the journal.

A Goal is a Dream with a Deadline

I recently went to lunch at a Chinese restaurant and this is from my fortune cookie:  "A Goal is a Dream with a Deadline".  That is the truth!  I have been making bookmarks as well as hand drawing 30 sympathy and encouragement cards.  I have still been making a bookmark daily, just have not had time to take pictures and post on my blog.  It is a good thing I did not commit to making a blog post daily!!  I wanted to take a photo of all the bird and butterfly sympathy cards plus all the bookmarks I made this week, but couldn't get them all in one photo!

Even though I committed to making a bookmark daily, I am usually doing quite a bit more than that, but most I don't post on my blog especially if it is a repeat of something I have made before.

Many times I see a card that seems perfect that I like but the sentiment isn't quite right.  So I have created some blank greeting cards, all hand drawn but also - each one has a different sentiment.  So if you like a particular design you have several options as to what sentiment can be written on the card.  I am not sure if it will show up in the photo, but I have written the sentiment very small around the outside upper body portion of the bird, very subtle.   I am always happy to do  custom orders.

Below are some of the bookmarks I have been making.

Day 68 - ORANGE

Day 68 of Making a Bookmark Daily for 365 days and I worked with the color orange.  I love how the orange flowers on the blank greeting card repeats in the magnetic bookmark.  That was just one of those happy accidents. I really need to get better at taking these photos because this really looks so much better in person!

I had a special request for "anything in orange".  Thank you Amanda.  Hope you like.  Thank you for the greeting card display rack.  I love it.  Great trade.

Snow day in Tucson!!!

This is the view from my studio window today, it was amazing, the snow fell like feathers.

Day 67 Making a Bookmark Daily for 365 Days

I went to the orthopedic surgeon on Valentine's day.  Dr. Wang added some exercises to my physical therapy and I advanced from two pound weights to five pound!

Dr. Wang has been fantastic in helping with my recovery.  His birthday is coming up in March and he plans to retire!!  He will be missed.  I am grateful for his patience.  Also I want to thank his assistant, Danielle, for her kindness and cheerful attitude.  I always thought of a question I forgot to ask during the appointment and she always found out the answer for me!

Dr. Wang was my inspiration to start drawing again (keep moving my hand and wrist - use it or lose it) which led to this blog and Lazy Lizard Studio.  I spend time in my art studio daily now.  It has been as important to me in my recovery as the range of motion exercises and the weight-bearing exercises I do in physical therapy.

I love this bird I collaged onto the magnetic bookmark.  I cut it out of some decorative paper for the collage.  It is mounted in the center of a blank greeting card.

Days 63, 64, 65 and 66 Making a Bookmark Daily for 365 days

It has been a good month so far.  I have had a contest and a give away this month.  Rachael J. from Tucson, was the winner of the bacon magnetic bookmark drawing.  She was one of several people that "liked" Lazy Lizard Studio on Facebook or commented on Facebook or this blog.  However, I gave her a choice of duct tape magnetic bookmarks and rather than bacon, she went with the Hello Kitty.  I added some bling of course.  Thanks again to everyone that "liked" Lazy Lizard Studio on Facebook.

Stephanie M. received a bookmark as part of a random giveaway.  See my post from Day 62. I love to surprise people.  There will be more surprise give aways as well as more contests.

The March contest will be based on submitted favorite quotes.  This time instead of a random drawing, I will pick my favorite and make a bookmark which will go to the person that submitted the quote.  There will be more details in March.

In the meantime, here are some bookmarks from with my favorite quotes for Days 63, 64, 65 and 66 of Making a Bookmark Daily for 365 Days.  I am packaging them as sets with similar themes:

Day 62 Make a Bookmark a Day for 365 Days

Thanks to Stephanie Moriset Justen for inspiring me with this quote "I already want to take a nap tomorrow".  It made me laugh and I just had to make a bookmark out of it of course.  What Stephanie doesn't know is that she just "won" this bookmark for the inspiration she has given me.

If you have a favorite quote or saying that motivates you, makes you laugh, inspires.....let me put it in a bookmark for you, your friends or book club, laminated for protection.  Contact me for details.

Thanks again for the inspiration Stephanie!

Day 60 and 61 Making a bookmark a day for 365 days

I have been having fun the past few days hand lettering bookmarks.  These will be laminated for protection.  I love the Steven Wright quote "I was reading the dictionary.  I thought it was a poem about everything."  Also, "I read past my bedtime" and "Don't judge a book by it's movie".

The back side of the bookmarks have decorative paper.
Here is a blank greeting card I hand lettered.
Here is a blank greeting card I designed.  Inside:  Congratulations on your new job!  I will also customize for no extra charge.  It would be a great encouragement card for someone still looking for a job.  You can contact me if you are interested in purchasing any of my work.

Reading is not the only thing I do past my bedtime, I stay up way too late at my drafting table drawing and playing!  Good night!

Day 59 of Making a Bookmark A Day for 365 Days

Madison's Valentine day card with two Justin magnetic bookmarks!!!
This is my "studio" cat, Kai.  She has her cat post right next to my drafting table in an effort to keep her off of the drafting table.  Sometimes that actually works.  When I completely clean off the surface of the drafting table, she thinks I cleared a spot for her.

Besides making bookmarks today, I am taking an online lettering class, I am on lesson two and the class is on lesson 9 or ten I think.
