Do Things That Give You Wings - Day 98 Art Girl bookmark

This is another one of my art "gurlz" bookmarks.  I was anxious to post her but had to wait for her "wings" to dry.  Another one of my favorite sayings "Do Things That Give You Wings".  I made her three dimensional with foam board, but she is very light.  I drew her face and for the wording I made my own washi tape which is my current addiction.  It doesn't appear to show up well in the photo but her wings are glittery.

Bookmark 97 Art doll bookmark

This started with a small deck of cards from Tim Holtz that I picked up the other day.  I actually have a very small deck of cards that I plan to use....just can't find at the moment.  So, I picked this "A" card from the deck and added my own "washi tape".  My daughter found some Curad tape that you normally use for bandaging, at the dollar store.  It was transparent tape and I just wrote in one of my favorite sayings:  Art and Life are One.
I stamped some card stock with some script then I created the accordion arms, legs secured by eyelets.  I drew in the face on some of the stamped card stock to create the head and painted some shoes on her feet.
The photo below shows her back.  She has purchased washi tape and then I used more of the tape I made with the same quote as the front.
I used a product similar to Diamond glaze on her face and I am waiting for that to dry before attaching her to a staff-style bookmark.

Day 96 Coffee and a doughnut anyone?

I know I am always saying "oh I love this one", but really, how can I not?  A coffee up and doughnut!  If you look really close at the title of the book you will see it is a Diet Planner!!  LOL

Day 94 and 95 Book thongs

A couple of book thongs, one with a spiral charm and the other has a cute bird charm.  These were ordered by someone that wanted to keep them on hand for gift-giving.

Day 93 Tree of Life Bookmark

A tree of life book thong.  I have made this one before, I used a few extra beads this time to change it up a little bit.  It has tree and leaf charms.

Fairy bookmark staff style Day 92

I really like these staff-style bookmarks.  They don't damage the pages and they look good on the bookshelf dangling over the edge of the book.   I plan to line some up and take a photo of a few of them on the bookshelf.

I have more ideas than I do hours these days it seems.  I have some cute mini accordion books planned and a surprise....well, more of a surprise box!  I want to make some more of the 3x3 mini books - they make great cards and the pockets are perfect to stick a few dollars in for gift giving!

The other day I made a domino girl staff-style bookmark that I do not want to part I decided I want to make more...........but entirely different.    For one thing, the Art Girlz went out of business so I can't get the pewter body part charms any more.  What is great about that, it forces you to improvise and come up with something.  I have several things I want to try!  I can't wait.  I use to doodle more, but lately I just make lists of all the bookmarks and books I want to make.  Anyway, I have some some of my own "gurlz" coming up soon!

More mini bookmarks! Different style

Here are bookmarks 86 through 91.  Miniature bookmarks, you can get the general idea of size in the above group picture with the dime for comparison.  These little books have something on both sides.  Little Red Riding Hood, Romero and Juliet, Pride and Prejudice, Snow White (I was afraid of Snow White when I was little, NOT the witch, but Snow White), Cinderella and Jane Eyre.  All are available for sale.  I can make a necklace if you prefer!

Day 83 Mini book bookmark

I made a one inch by one inch mini book with real pages.  I love this shade of blue. I photographed it next to a dime to demonstrate the actual size.  Sorry about the glare from the dime.   It is held together by a blue "belly band" with a decorative charm attached.  I have been experimenting with different closures.  This can also be made into a necklace!  I will be posting a mini book necklace in the very near future.

Another mini book card!

Here is another mini book.  Makes a wonderful greeting card.  It is 3x3", with a front and back cover, plus six double-sided pages and it has three POCKETS for goodies, bookmark, poem, photos......The first photo above is with the belly band next to it to give you a better idea of the closure I made.  The second picture to the left, is of the front of the book with the belly band wrapped around it to hold pages closed.  Then there are several pictures of the inside pages.  This one is currently blank, I have not written would be great for Easter, Birthday, Mother's day, Thank You, I Love You, Thinking of You, photos............

Next Chapter - mini book/card

I made this small 3x3" book/card for my orthopedic surgeon that has a birthday this month and he is also retiring!  I made this book in honor of his retirement!  It was a lot of fun to make.

I plan to make many more!  There are a few "pockets" in the book where I can insert a surprise, maybe a bookmark or two or the recipient can stash a memento.  I can customize them any way you want, inspirational quotes, poems, photos or leave them blank for you to finish!

Day 82 of making a bookmark daily and I made these fun, simple bookmark - You Are Here - to mark your place where you left off in your book.

Day 82 Fairy book thong

I found this great iridescent purple stretch cord to make this fairy book thong.  Pictured below is how this bookmark sits in your book holding your place.  It is great because it does not damage the pages of your book.  That is always a concern of mine and I try out all of the different bookmarks I make.

Day 81 Mini book with heart key hole & heart key

I made a red beaded dangle for this red mini book.  It has a small heart key hole with a matching heart lock.  This would be a great bridesmaid gift.  I can personalize with photos of bride and groom.

Day 80!! Miniature book bookmark with key..

I made another mini book bookmark.  I decided to leave the book open to expose the pages and the book paper inside the cover.  I used keyhole hardware on this one too and had a small key charm to match.  You can write you diary, grocery list, to do list, bucket list..........

Miniature Book Bookmarks

I had the MOST FUN making these miniature book bookmarks.  These are days 78 and 79.  Both are available for sale.  If you are interested, please call me.

I love the keyhole hardware on the larger book and the ribbon spine on the smaller book.  I am sure I will try all type of variations as I make a gazillion more of these....and I finally got to use my .....

I love it.  Another tool I wonder how did I ever live with out it.  If you have ever set an eyelet with a hammer.....well, THIS IS THE TOOL to replace that!  Set any size eyelets with EASE.  Plus I love this lime green kit I got with a bunch of different-sized eyelet.
It seems intimidating at first.  But do not let that stop you from purchasing if you are in the market for one of these, because it is as user friendly as it can get.  It took me a MINUTE to figure out and it came out perfect the first time.
The sides are the hole punches.  They punch through, tin, cds, heavy card stock, fabric as well as paper.  One side makes small holes and the other size is for larger holes.  Then there are dials on both sides where you can line it up and repeat hole punch and have them all line up perfectly on your project.  The top middle of this contraption is the eyelet setter.   Very very easy to use.  Doesn't take a lot of hand pressure to use either operation.  Plus, there are plenty of You Tube videos on line.
If you have ever used the hammer method, you know how it just sometimes smashes the eyelet and makes your project look sloppy?  Not the Crop-A-Dile.  It blooms into a pleasing flower shape.
There are different kits, different colors, or you can purchase alone, plenty of choices.  It is a GREAT addition to your tool stash if you do any eyelet setting at all.  Everything else it does is like cherries on top!

Creative Play

This is a small (8.5x11") art quilt that I made years ago when I participated in the Art Quilt Journal Project.  This has dyed fabric, yarns, wire and ric rac in the background.  The doll has movable plastic arms and legs, a pleated mesh wire skirt and a photograph of me.  The shirt is made from melting Tyvek and paints from what I can recall.  This is an example of creative play!  Trying different materials, techniques and just having fun.

Here is a close up of the melted painted Tyvek.  It has great texture to it.

Day 76 A mocha vodka caffe latte to go please...

Day 76 of making a bookmark daily and I thought I would make a magnetic bookmark to go with one of my blank greeting cards. The coffee mug is a removable magnetic bookmark.
As a reminder, all of my work is available for sale.
